Barn Babies with the Council on Aging

Our final intergenerational program for this year was held on May 20th over at the Sandwich Adventure Playground. Many thanks to the Sandwich Kiwanis for hosting a year's worth of fun!

Kindergarten "Bus For Us" at the Library

All children ready to start school next year were invited to a special program at the Sandwich Library that included stories, a puppet show, and a bus with their face on it! Thank you Mr. Parsons and Mrs. Johnson for treating 100 of your closest preschool friends to such a great show! Thanks to the Sandwich Public Preschool, Sandwich Village Preschool, Joyful Noise Preschool and Sandwich School of Early Learning for walking over on that sunny day! Thanks to the parents at Open Arms for driving our friends over as well!

Evening of Recognition for Council Partners

On May 9th, the Upper Cape Early Childhood Community gathered to celebrate National Childcare Appreciation Day, and recognize the accomplishments of those whose programs have received national or state recognition. In Sandwich, the NAEYC Accredited programs are The YMCA Lorrusso Center, The Bourne/Sandwich Headstart Center, The Sandwich Independent Day School, and The Sandwich Public Preschool (pending).
Rep. Jeffrey Perry issued citations applauding them for their accomplishment.
UPK Grantee Kathy Rooney's Family Child Care program, "A Special Day" was also recognized with a citation by Sen. Therese Murray.

Teddy Bear Picnic at the Playground!

On April 29th, everyone- young and young at heart- brought their bears to frolic on a cool but sunny day. Thanks to our friends at the Council On Aging, we had lots of fun with songs, stories and snacks. Looking forward to our next program with them- Barn Babies on May 20th!

Puppet Show Magic!

Mr. Parsons and Mrs. Vargin of the Sandwich Library's Children's Room brought used their magic to bring the story of Peter Rabbit to life for 100 children on Sat. May 2
Afterward, Miss Betsy helped the children create bunny cards, and enjoyed a snack of-what else?-carrots!

Eco-Toy Swap a Success!

Thanks to Janelle and members of the Sandwich Mother's Club, on Earth Day, April 22, we "recycled" over 100 toys to new owners here in Sandwich. The toys that remained were brought to A Baby Center, Independence House, or the Salvation Army. A large carton of brand new items were brought to the Sandwich Food Pantry for distribution there. Not only did many more children benefit from "new" toys, our landfills were saved from swallowing all that plastic, and families saved their budgets for other essentials. In my opinion, it was a win-win-win situation!

Discovery Center Birthday Party!

What a blast we had on Earth Day with Jackson Gilman and our Sandwich Library Friends, celebrating our 11th year of fun in the Discovery Center!

The celebration, including 100 scrumptious cupcakes from MacKillops Bakery, was made possible by Eastern Bank. Branch Manager Kirby Holmes came to help us blow out candles, but stayed to help a new friend that she met there. Kirby found a young mom, expecting her second child, and feeling very faint. Kirby remembered that feeling herself, and ran to get her an ice pack, and when ready, some juice and a cupcake. She refused to leave the mom's side, and even offered to drive her home. Thank you Kirby, for putting a very personal face on business!
